Happy April! It’s been a little bit since I’ve blogged – this whole having a job and going to school and keeping up with all my work and having somewhat of a social life is pretty new to me, but I’m starting to get the hang of it.
My spring break is, by now, long over. It went by way too fast for my liking, but that’s just how those things go, right? I didn’t talk too much about what I did, I mainly complained (haha) so here’s a little mini-recap:
- Work. For those who weren’t aware, I got a job at the Holiday Inn working at the front desk. I haven’t talked about it too much yet just because my first week or so there I absolutely hated it. I was completely overwhelmed with all the information I needed to know and with all of the work I was expected to do – and I wasn’t even doing anything yet! I was just shadowing the other workers and watching what they did. Which, looking back now, was probably part of the problem to me. I don’t really like sitting back and watching other people do all of the work and I felt absolutely useless. However, I’m feeling a lot better about my job now. Over spring break, I was pretty much done with my training so I was actually taking phone calls, checking people in, doing deposit drops, and all that jazz. While I’m technically done with training, I’m still learning and there’s a lot that I’m not sure how to do or just am not required to do yet. I’m just glad I’m not hating driving to work everyday. I’m much more comfortable with it now – something I’m extremely thankful for. I’m also much more comfortable with the my coworkers, which makes working not so much of a drag anymore either, and have got to know most of them – and I love them all!
-
Read the Hunger Games series. Again. I went and saw the midnight premiere of the movie with a bunch of my friends and absolutely loved it, so I wanted to read the books again for like the, I dunno, fourth time? This series I really cannot recommend enough. I can’t pick one series of books that is my favorite but it is definitely in my top three (right next to Harry Potter and the Lord of the Rings). So much happens in this series that the books never really get old to me – I’m always catching something new each time. And I get so emotionally attached to the characters, it’s crazy. I haven’t read a book where I’ve had more of a connection to the characters than these. But anyways, I read them again.
- Watched the first Lord of the Rings movie. My annual tradition to watch the Lord of the Rings movies over spring break didn’t really happen this year, which is kind of sad. I managed to watch the first one, but I really didn’t have the time to watch the others (I mean really, they’re like four hours long). I was also trying to watch them with Becky and Andrew, but because we all have jobs, we couldn’t find any days that we all were off. Growing up sucks. I’m going to try and watch the other two soon, just because I love them so much, it just won’t be over spring break – which is alright. I still have many years to come where I fulfill my nerdy tradition.
- Celebrated mine and Andrew’s two year anniversary. At the beginning of our relationship – as in before we even started dating – we would meet up at a park between my house and his and hang out. He also asked me out at this park, so I think it’s needless to say that the park is kind of special to us. As a surprise, he took me there for lunch and we had a picnic together. We had sandwiches and fruit and some chips, and it was just altogether really, really nice. :)After that we went back to his house and played some video games. Actually, that’s singular: video game. The only games that he has that I’m decent as are his LEGO games, so I played LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean while he laughed at how much I sucked. A little bit later, we went out to eat and then rented a movie. It was a really good day.
I didn’t get everything that I wanted to accomplished (like working on my travel site) but it wasn’t too bad. I was able to catch up on some sleep and do a few things for myself.
I have today off from school for Good Friday so it was nice to have a little mini break. I had lunch with Andrew at a local Italian restaurant called Nick and Elena’s. I had never been there before but I’ve always heard good things so we went and tried it. We just split a pizza but it was very good! It’s kind of a hole-in-the-wall kind of restaurant and it’s rather small, but they had good service and good food, so that’s what really matters. It’s also just down the street from the Holiday Inn that I work at, and people are always asking if I would recommend it. So now I can say that I do!
I always like finding new restaurants since me and Andrew are both pretty picky. It can get kind of boring going to the same places over and over, and I like going to local restaurants – though we really don’t have that many around my area. We mainly have big chain restaurants. So I’m pretty happy that we both liked this place. Next time I’ll have to try some of their pasta! Sometimes I think I could live off Italian food.
That sounds like a lovely break! I usually go to the same restaurant actually, which is sometimes repetitive but I don’t like change and the bf and I are both veggies so it’s hard to find good veggie/vegan restaurants around.
My training went so fast! Literally they talked and had me sign stuff for 4 hours one day and then kind of threw me into work. The only think I have yet to learn is the cash register!
I want to read the Hunger Games but I just can’t bring myself to start another series. I invest so much into Harry Potter and I’m not sure if I’m ready to do that again. I sound lame, but it makes sense to me!
Hey, you’re right getting first hands down experience at the college is a pretty way to go. I wasn’t to thrilled about starting when I was being nitpicked at to do the housing. Which would’ve been easier for me, if I had the money, and didn’t have an animal I couldn’t stay away from. Ya know? It’s just one of those things.
But I’m glad you had a good break even though it was short. My adoptive dad’s two week vacation is coming up on Tuesday. It’s going to go bye so quickly! We’re hopefully going to go to Knott’s Berry Farm one weekend with my sister.
I’m so glad you’re able to enjoy your work environment, now that you actually can start taking the phone calls and not feel useless. I was that way when I had my jobs.
You will eventually get to work on your travel blog! I just know it! Happy Two-Years Anniversary! Wow, I didn’t even make it that long with the Andrew I dated only two months. That was a crying shame right there. Though it was funny when we both had boyfriends named Andrew (you still have yours obviously) I’m still looking for one. So far I got at least two Filipino guys after my behind…and both are good looking and one Japanese guy :). Though long story with him, I guess I kinda scared him away by asking some personal questions (just mainly if he had his driver’s license and what not to see if he can’t rent a car)…type stuff.
Hmmm, I’ve heard about the “Hunger Games” movie, but not the books. I didn’t know it was based off of books. Goes to show you, how much I read :P. I’m even procrastinating to do my second English assignment (outline the chapters (yuck) ).
But good luck on your job and the remainder of your year at high school (Senior rules doesn’t it?). My cold is getting a bit better, though like I stated I have a slight ear ache infection that we’re nipping in the bud. :).
You definitely had things going on for spring break. I had so much plans for it, but in the end I couldn’t do any of it because of work. Disappointing. Haha! I’ve always wanted to try working in the front counter of a handsome hotel, and pretty much do what you do. I should try it out when I’m done with my just-current job. Haha!
With the movie coming in, I couldn’t help but read the series all over again. Haha! I’ve never read LOTR tho, but I’m a big fan of the movies. I should really have another LOTR marathon soon. And yes, sometimes I complain that they take too long. Haha!
Happy anniversary you guys! Keep it up and stay strong! The italian restaurant sounds great! I don’t think I could live with just italian food, but damn I would love to have one right now. (:
Work isn’t meant to be easy at first, but once you have the hang of it, it’s actually.. Really simple. It’s a nice experience for you and hey- you’re getting skills from your job! Social skills, organizing skills, multi taskin skills, you name it! :)! I’m glad you’re comfortable with your coworkers.
It’s amazing how you can read the same series over and over again. I can’t even finish through a couple of series without taking long breaks. You got some awesome reading skills.
Your spring break is filled with work, I can understand why you didn’t have the chance to finish off Lord of the Rings. But there’s always next time :)!
Happy 2 year anniversary to you and Andrew as well :)! It’s hard to stay in a relationship, but it’s amazing on how you both manage it! I’m proud of you both ;D! You know the rest of the jazzy stuff :P!
I’ll look forward into seeing the complete version of your travel site. You’re not the only person who likes looking for new restaurants. I love finding new restaurants too, but not with my boyfriend (only because I don’t have one) but with my several friends… and my cousin. XD.
I thought it would be hard raising the money for relay for life, but you never know until you actually get working on it. I don’t like asking people for anything, but once you plan everything out, it’s really easy.
I’m sure I would enjoy watching the Hunger Games more, in an enjoyable sense. I guess the only reason why I actually watch Breaking Dawn is because it’s to remind me how “Bella threw her life away right after high school by having a kid”.
Take care ;D
Congrats on your job. I’m sorry I missed it. That seems like a great job. It’s not fast food and you probably won’t get stressed out to badly.
I haven’t read The Hunger Games yet. My sister recently won the whole book series from a library drawing but I haven’t had time to read it yet. And I want to read it before I see the movie.
I hope you find more time for fun. I know I’m wishing the same but I do like being busy.
Awww, congrats! Happy Anniversary! It does seem like a lovely day you two had.
Good eatin’!
Congrats on the job! And it’s good you’re getting the hang of it
Oh the Hunger Games series is amazing I watched the movie the day it came out. Who’s your favourite character? Or the characters you favour me because you can’t choose?
Aw, that’s so sweet. And you’re not the only one, I suck at video games too xD I know what you mean about it getting kind of boring going to the same restaurants, sometimes you kind of get sick of the food too. Same haha; garlic bread, pizza, and pasta, can’t get better than that!
Spring Break! gr8!
I’m having my 2 months summer vacation!
Congrats on the job! It sounds hectic one…but good you have a job!
Oh, the Hunger Games is one such book you really feel like reading again and again!
I’ve not watched the Lord of the rings movie, but though like you I make it a point to watch the Harry Potter movie once in the summer vacation… just saw the half-Blood prince on Saturday!
Congrats to you and Andrew for your second anniversary! you had a nice Good Friday then!
You have a travel site?
That would mean you love traveling. I love traveling too, but I haven’t been to great many places…and never outside India!
You sound like you had a great Spring Break! When I was in school, I never did much other than work
When you first start a job, it’s hard to say whether you like it much or not, because, like you said, you are training a lot and watching people and being told what to do, etc. Once you actually get to DO your job, it’s a lot easier to gauge whether you like it or not.. and it’s good to hear you are liking your job
A travel site sounds cool… do you travel a lot? I might have to check that out and see what it’s all about I don’t travel much, except for moving because my husband is in the Army… we actually just moved from Alaska to Kentucky… BIG change!
The only thing I don’t like about the Hunger Games book is the first person pov. I’m always bugged by that and usually prefer third person.
But I’m glad you’re feeling better about your job and I’m glad you are enjoying your spring break.
Congrats on the 2 year anniversary! It’s not easy but completely worth it!
