This past week I’ve been feeling a bit down. I restricted my availability for my first job to make room for my second job, but I didn’t get put on the schedule yet, so I’ve had the last four days off, which has left me entirely too much time to think. And when I think too much I usually get a bit depressed. I hadn’t really done anything productive with my time – I didn’t have much homework and didn’t particularly feel like doing much of anything.
This morning I woke up and remembered I was having a good friend – my old roommate – over for lunch and my apartment was a mess. So, I pushed my sleeves up and got to work.
I’ve gotten into the habit of listening to audiobooks on my Kindle. I like to get them online from the library and I can have them for up to three weeks, so it gives me plenty of time to listen to them. So with The Necromancer by Michael Scott playing in the background (the series has been a bit mediocre, honestly), I started to clean.
Normally I would say that I really dislike cleaning, but there are certain days where I really enjoy it. I like scrubbing the dirt away, having everything put away, everything right where it belongs. I took out the trash and did the dishes. I cleaned the bathroom and the kitchen, and then I vacuumed. I threw out a bunch of junk I just had lying around and I cleaned out the fridge.
Since I’m a bit short on money with not working as much as I usually do, I’m trying a bit of an experiment by trying to eat as much of what I have on hand before going to the grocery store. So far, I haven’t had to get very creative yet. I’ve just been eating unusually healthy because I have so many darn frozen vegetables in my freezer! I also have a bunch of random Hamburger Helper boxes that I bought but am now scared to try. I tried the orange chicken and so far I am 0-1. I should know better than to buy boxed Chinese food.
I then remembered I needed to pay rent and put together a scholarship application for my church that is due soon, so I took care of that and some other paperwork stuff I’ve been putting off, when I remembered I was supposed to meet my friend an hour ago. For some reason, most likely ’cause I’m lazy, I just assumed that we were meeting at my apartment. But naturally as I went through my text messages, we were supposed to meet up at school for lunch. And I had already eaten.
I called her and apologized – I can be such a flake when it comes to meeting people and I genuinely feel bad. She was on her way by so she stopped by and we just chatted. I made some coffee and we giggled over boys and wedding plans, just like we used to do when we lived together the last couple of years. I miss seeing her as much.
Me and Andrew have been planning for probably the last month to watch the movie Castaway and every time our plans change, usually because of his roommate. Not that we mind, it’s just a bit of a running joke. So Andrew invited me over saying, “Let’s watch Castaway. And by that I mean let’s plan to watch Castaway and not watch it.”
And like always, that’s what happened. His roommate and friend were going to Dave & Buster’s, which is basically an arcade for grown-ups. We had dinner there and then went around playing all of the games. Andrew and his roommate were really good while me and the other girl just pretty much sucked. But it was a lot of fun, and Andrew won me the fluffy unicorn from Despicable Me so I was pretty happy.
It really is SO FLUFFY.
Honestly, I miss having my own place. I don’t have answer to anyone, don’t have to tell them when I’m going and when I’m coming back. The freedom life — how I miss it (not being sarcastic). I really do miss it!!! One of these days, Tristan plans to transfer to U.C. Riverside and that means he wants to get our own place and not have to worry about commuting back and fourth. One of these days!!
I miss having stuffed animals as well. My dad told me that I shouldn’t have them because I’m an “adult.” Who cares? No one is going to see them anyways, unless I invite them over to my bedroom. Ya know? It disheartened me when I had to give them up. .
Ah! My mom is sort of like that. When she says she’ll be over at 8:00 we know that she’ll be over at 9:00 an hour later! So, whenever we invited her over to dinner, we would ask her to be here at 6:00 knowing she’ll be here at 7:00 and have dinner made and ready by 7:00. Lol! That’s kind of funny, if you come to think about it. I hope you and Andrew will get a chance one of these to watch Castaway. All these years I had a chance to watch it and never did, until Tristan came along and told me what an amazing movie it was. And it is!!! I LOVED IT (all Tom Hanks movies are fantastic!). Again, I hope you guys get a chance to watch it sometime.
I don’t think I like the act of cleaning, but it feels so good afterwards! It’s just so satisfying to see a clean room I’m glad your friend was still able to stop by and meet up with you!
I haven’t seen Castaway, and I feel like I should. People still refer to things in that movie. My husband and I are lazy about watching movies at home though, so I have a feeling we’d keep putting it off too, haha.
That’s awesome that Andrew won the unicorn for you! It’s so cute!
That’s why it’s always good to have something to distract yourself, whether it be a book or a game. Something that helps. It has been hard to learn something like that.
I love Despicable Me, and I recently seen the second one(which was very good btw) and looking forward to the Minion movie soon. Anyhow, it is awesome that Andrew won it for you.
Your day sounded pretty productive so congratulations on that! I also have some days when I enjoy cleaning, it just feels good seeing a clean room afterwards. Plus, you would realize just how much junk has been piling up in your place!
It’s nice that you still got to meet up with your friend no matter how late. Lol! It must feel good to meet up with someone you haven’t seen in a while and talk to her as if you haven’t been apart.
That’s a cute stuffed unicorn! Andrew is pretty awesome and knows how to make you happy
Ugh…thanks for reminding me that I really need to get my room cleaned. It’s funny because I absolutely love how everything looks and smells once it’s done – but the idea of the act itself makes me cry. I’m glad that you had a good day with your friend and with Andrew and his roommate and everyone else. The unicorn is adorable, and are you going to name her?
That sounds like so much fun! <3 I miss Dave 'N Busters! I've only been once but it is always so much fun. The Chuck-E-Cheese for adults! YEAH!
That's good that you were able to be productive that day. It is awesome when you are able to be productive.
That is amazing that you were able to get the unicorn from Despicable Me. I love that movie and would die to have that unicorn! Unicorns are my favorite mystical animals!
