I absolutely love Christmas time. I always have, and I’m almost positive I always will. Me and Andrew went to lunch together at Buffalo Wild Wings and we were looking at their upcoming events and he says, “I forgot Christmas was this month.”
-______-
Sometimes I swear he is not my boyfriend.
But I digress. I’ve spent the majority of my day today baking Christmas cookies with my mom and listening to Christmas music while we’re at it. We always have to make a ton of cookies because we always have tons of company during the season and my family eats them like crazy.
I had to do most of the work though, which I don’t mind because I love baking, because my mom has been having some troubles with her elbow and shoulder. Her elbow has been bothering her for a long while now; she has what’s called “tennis elbow.” There’s some technical medical name for it, but I can’t recall what it is. She has to have surgery on it over Christmas break and it will take about 6-8 weeks for her to recover–in which she can’t pick anything up that is heavier than a gallon of milk.
Then, she went to the doctor to have a MRI on her shoulder and found that she has a torn rotator cuff. She doesn’t know what that entails yet, but she think she might have to have surgery on that too. The next couple of months will be hard for her because she won’t be able to work or cook or, really anything. But hopefully everyone in my family will be able to help her through this.
Christmas at my house so far has been a bit lacking because of this. It hurts for her to do a lot of things, so me and my sister are doing the majority of wrapping presents and decorating the house and whatnot. We don’t mind.
My parents went out with some friends a couple of nights ago, so me and my sister were going to surprise her by getting all of the Christmas decorations out and hanging them up, as well as the tree. We went a little bit overboard, and when they walked in and saw this we could not stop laughing.
My mom just had this dumbfounded look on her face and my dad was laughing along with us. I even had the Christmas lights hooked up so when you turned the light switch on, only the Christmas lights came on, not the regular lights. She eventually made us take them down because she was afraid “someone would hang themselves when they walked in the door.” Eye roll.
I’ve got the majority of my shopping done as well. I need to get a few small things and some toys for Tabor and then I’ll be set! Alas, I do believe those cookies are calling my name, so I’ll leave you with some pictures of Christmas at my house.
All the best for your mum!
I didn’t even think about Christmas until like a few days ago, because I was so focused on other stuff that I didn’t even realise Christmas was so soon.
I love the lights, they look so pretty. The tree looks amazing
Nice. This year I am not as excited for Christmas as last year since I was going to South Africa. That’s where tonnes of people on my dad’s side of the family live. This year my family and I are just driving for a few hours to this resort for a few days.
Cookiesss <3 Luv 'em. But we never make them at Christmas. Actually we don't really make cookies that much. Mainly cake! c: Hope your mum gets better soon. <3
Loooool awesome decorating. 8D And that's pretty cool how you made only those lights turn on and not the normal lights.
Cute dogg <3 And I love the sign that says 'Santa please stop here" Epiccccccc. We don't usually decorate stuff at my house.. Well last year in South Africa we had a Christmas tree IT WAS SO DAMN BIG.
I can’t even comprehend how someone could FORGET Christmas is in December. My brother often forgets when Christmas is, but we’re Jewish so he gets confused because Jewish holidays move around. He forgets Christmas is on the same date every year. He often thinks it’s on the say day every year instead, like Thanksgiving.
I really hope your mom feels better and requires as quickly as possible from her surgery and everything. I’m sure having you and the rest of her family will help her out a ton.
The tree looks cute! I can see why your parents would have made you guys take down the other lights, though. xD It looks like someone could clothesline themselves!
The cookies look amazing! I bet they’d be even better with a bit of frosting.
Requires? O.o Recovers… Recovers as quickly as possible. Lmao, sorry.
Congratulations on reaching over 50,000 words for NaNoWriMo :D! The holiday season is awesome, not only because there’s sweet deals, it gives me an excuse to eat out and spend more XD! Even I forgot Christmas was this month thanks to what’s going on in life D:!
It’s awesome when you have lots of company who loves eating and eating XD!
God bless your mother with her elbow and shoulder troubles :/. It sucks seeing anyone close to you having to have surgery! But hopefully, the operation will be swift and the recovery process won’t be too much of a hassle. Hopefully, your family will make up for anything that has to happen!
The decorations in the house looks awesome! We don’t set up a tree in the house anymore because it takes up too much space :O. But the decorations looks awesome :D! I love the
“g” on the bell :D!
It is a pain not having power :(! But it gives you a good reason to use candles :D!
Eep! I feel bad for the kids in the engineering classes! Having all of the work done nad losing it sucks! D:! Hopefully it wasn’t a hassle to get them back :P!
I speak Cantonese but I don’t really like speaking it in the public. People at school are just.. Weird becuase they push me to speak something they don’t understand anyways o__o…… Enough with the peer pressure :P.
Take care(:
My dad threw away are artificial Christmas tree that we’ve had for 5+ years (my mom’s allergic to the real ones). We still haven’t bought another one yet, and Christmas is only three weeks away. I’m usually the only one in the family who puts up the Christmas tree, and I usually do it the week before Christmas, lol.
Your dog is so cute.
Aww, sorry your mom is going through all of that. My mom had surgery for a stomach tumor once and it was hard seeing her so weak for about a month. Sounds like you and your family are very supportive/helpful though, so I’m sure everything will go smoothly!
Oh my goodness, I love your pictures. Yes, it is certainly the Christmas season with all of these decorations and events! hehehe. That is a really cute ornament, haha. A stop sign for Santa That’s pretty funny that you hooked up the normal light switch to the Christmas lights hahaha. Good prank on the parents. Mmmm, I love making and eating (but mostly eating!) cookies. Unfortunately I end up having to eat most of them myself or giving them away because my family doesn’t really eat too many of them I guess you could always say more for me, but I don’t wanna gain 50 pounds before it’s Christmas! haha
I swear I remember that “g” bauble from your Christmas last year! But yeah… I don’t blame Andrew for not remembering Christmas. This year has gone by pretty fast after all… and some people don’t celebrate it so it can ~kind of~ be excused.
I hope your mum is alright if she does need surgery! That injury sounds very serious. It’s nice that everyone is supportive and will be helping her out. I hope she recovers soon.
I haven’t made cookies in… forever. We don’t have a proper oven so I can’t really bake anything either.
I laughed out loud reading “someone would hang themselves when they walked in the door.” That is quite true. x) Our family doesn’t really get into decorating much more than a Christmas tree. However, there is this one neighbourhood near ours that we like to drive by around Christmastime because all the people who live around there are known for decorating their homes soooo much. Lights on the outside and cardboard Santas and everything!
D:< I'm excited for Christmas, and in Serbia it starts on December 31st.I cant wait for the gifts, lol, well
I hope your mom gets better soon! I hope her surgery goes well.
We usually decorate the tree and for the past couple of years we’ve painted pinecones, some with like white tips so they look like little trees with snow on them. We always do a wreath on the door but we don’t do much outside decorating. But your tree looks cool.
The beginning of December, for us, is the beginning of baking cookies. It’s like a month long thing because they get eaten fast but it’s fun. ^^
Yeah, I’m going to try NaNo next year. Do you do ScriptFrenzy in April? I did last year and might this coming year.
