Rebecca Smith, B.B.A.

Friday afternoon, I graduated with my Bachelor of Business Administration. :D

I wasn’t all too excited about the actual ceremony; if anything it was stressing me out. Both Andrew and I’s family arrived in Kansas City around 1:00pm and the ceremony was at 4:00pm. In total, there were 13 of us, which was a lot of people to be crammed into our little apartment!

I arrived at school about an hour before the ceremony for the robing and to get in line. It was really disorganized, so I ended up just standing for pretty much the whole hour. I found quite a few classmates that I knew, so the time passed pretty quickly as we talked. My feet were killing me, though. I had bought a new pair of heeled booties for the ceremony, but after standing in them for so long, I was ready to take them off!

I tried to spot my family during the processional, but there were so many people that I didn’t manage to find them right away. I didn’t spot them until I was actually lining up to walk across the stage and I spotted my mom and gave her a little wave.

I felt a little special because I had received Latin Honors, so when they called my name, they also announced Summa Cum Laude, meaning “with highest distinction.” I got a special medal to wear with my gown for the Latin honor. It varies from school to school, but for the business school I was within, Summa Cum Laude is anyone with a 3.85+ GPA. My final GPA ended up being a 3.93 so I was really proud of myself for almost achieving straight As. ;)

My Graduation

After the ceremony, we met away from the crowd by the library to take some pictures. As I’m looking through them, the heeled booties were worth the pain because they are so cute. :<

We ordered from our favorite Kansas City BBQ restaurant, Oklahoma Joe’s, afterwards for dinner. There were 13 of us altogether, so just called it in and picked it up. On a normal Friday night, the line can be an hour and a half long so I knew it wouldn’t be practical to eat at the restaurant. It was just as good. :D

On Saturday, Andrew had his Spanish graduation where he graduated with his Bachelor of Art in Spanish. I brought my phone to read a bit while guest speakers spoke or they called everyone else’s name. ;)

Then on Sunday, Andrew graduated with his Bachelor of Science in Nursing. At this one, they announced both of his degrees while he crossed the stage. I had teased earlier that he could wear my medal since he didn’t receive a Latin honor, so I was cracking up when I saw him wearing it. What’s mine is his, eh? ;)

Andrew Spanish Graduation

I was honestly more excited about Andrew’s graduations than I was my own. I’m proud that I’ve graduated and that I did so well in my classes, but words truly can’t express how proud of Andrew I am. In the same amount of time I graduated with my one degree, he graduated with two – and most weeks he worked more than forty hours at his job. I don’t know how he managed to do all of that, plus make time for us, and still graduate with a 3.5 GPA.

I’m just a super proud wife, and so grateful that I get to stand by his side and celebrate his accomplishments with him.

  1. Congratulations to you and Andrew for graduating!! It must’ve been an exciting experience, especially with earning a Summa Cum Laude! I wish I can have your studying discipline X’D. *Looks up to you from my magna rank*. 3.93 is AMAZING! I love your heels too ;). The both of you did a really good job and I’m glad to hear that things worked out at the end! All of your hard work paid off!

  2. Congrats on graduating! Just last year I graduated with my associates degree, so I still have quite a bit to go with my schooling, but however I still remember my graduation like it is fresh in my mind! :)

I seriously don’t know how he managed to handle all that either! Jeez!

  5. Congratulations to both you and Andrew for graduating! It actually makes me so happy when people who work hard finally get to their goals! And damn girl, I’m crying at how high your GPA is. University was a big life-changer for me so I had a lot of challenges to come across in the first year, but I’m happy to know you did well and stuck through it!

  6. Congratulations to both of you guys! I’m really proud of you guys for sticking it through all this time and not ever giving up! I’m also really stoked to hear/read that you got a 3.9 GPA! I’m the same way honestly. Right now, I believe I will have another 3.95 GPA this semester. I could have had my first 4.0 if it wasn’t for the hiccup in my asp class, but oh well. I’m done stressing over it. But, I am so proud of you guys! You’ve both deserve to graduate after all the tears, frustration, and sweat you’ve both put into countless hours of studying and doing homework. Congratulations again!

  7. OMG Summa Cum Laude! Congratulations!! You’re right at the top! Cannot wait to see what you couple will do in the future together. Congrats!!

  9. Congratulations to both of you! You should be really proud of everything you’ve acheived over the past few years. Degrees definitely aren’t a walk in the park, that’s for sure. I have no idea how Andrew managed to do two! I struggled with the one!

Hope you had a brilliant day and celebrated just as you deserve to! Congrats again!

Now on to the next level! ;)

  12. Congrats to both you and Andrew on graduating! That’s awesome that you received Latin Honors and that Andrew finished two degrees. Both are amazing accomplishments! That’s great that so much of yours and Andrew’s family came to your graduations. BBQ sounds like a tasty way to celebrate :) Good job you two!

  13. Congrats to you both!!
I graduated last week as well. I’m so glad to be done. And your husband is indeed impressive, you both are.

I wasn’t excited for the ceremony either. I did it for my family though, my parents wanted to see me walk across that stage. I just didn’t want to trip. XD But I’m glad I did it, because it made it feel more real!

    We finished!!
    Congrats again!

  14. Awwww congratulations to you both. :) You both deserve it and worked so hard!

We don’t really look at the GPA a great deal in Australia but we have medals for people who have completed a course with high distinctions (or similar). I guess it just varies. :P

I have graduated twice but neither of them seemed like a huge deal to me. My Bachelors didn’t feel that special, maybe because I was ready to do a Masters degree so would have to go through much of the same stuff. And my Masters was just a huge relief so I didn’t see it as a big deal. xD I was definitely super excited for Nick’s graduation – I think I understand how you feel because sometimes you just feel really proud of someone you care about. I worked while I did my Masters degree but I still find it impressive that Nick worked full time while he was doing a Bachelors degree (it sort of tends to be more difficult I think?), similar to how Andrew worked as well.

So well deserved! And sore feet are worth it for cute shoes! Just be sure to give them a rest, now. ;)

  15. Congrats on your BBA with highest distinction! That’s four years of hard work to be proud of! And congrats to your husband for the double degree! You guys are so cute in those robes! I’ve been going to our all-university commencement for two years in a row now to watch my friends graduate and it’s so amazing that it’s not boring at all! :)
