I really don’t talk much about Kansas City, other than that this isn’t really my home and that I go to school here, so I wanted to start a little series of posts that show the highlights of this great city and to share some of my favorite experiences.
One of the hot spots to go eat near our campus is a little hole-in-the-wall place called Pizza 51. They serve some great, huge, slices of pizza from a former gas station. They converted it into a cute little pizzeria that’s affordable and fun.
What makes their pizzas so much fun is the sheer size of their slices. I love taking new people to Pizza 51 just to see their reactions when the pizza comes out!
I’m not sure if this is a common thing to do outside of the midwest, but they serve honey with your pizza to dip your crust into. Is that common elsewhere? I have never heard of it before, and neither have most of my friends. I’m not a big fan, but Andrew is always on the lookout for honey now when we eat pizza there!
They have so many toppings for all of their pizzas that every time I go it takes me forever to decide what I want! Today I just ordered sausage because I just couldn’t decide what I wanted! They have everything from artichoke hearts to feta cheese to cream cheese to pineapple – they’ve got it all!
I love pizza – and I’ve had a lot of pizza from so many different places around the world. I wouldn’t say that this is the best pizza I’ve ever had, but it’s good pizza and I love the environment there. They have indoor and outdoor seating separated by a garage door (come one, how cool is that?) and on nice days, they lift the garage door so the indoor and outdoor seating is combined.
The location is perfect, too, because it’s situated just on the edge of campus. It’s convenient to meet friends there for lunch or to grab some on the way home. It’s also close enough that I can walk on nice days and I don’t feel so full that I might explode on the walk home, either. ;P
I went this afternoon with my old roommate and a freshman girl I had just met. She loved it! Alysha was, as always, very excited about the pizza!
The slices are just large enough, too, that I always have something to take home with me and have for lunch tomorrow.
I cannot believe how big that pizza slice is! However, if it’s a New York style pizzeria place, than I can only imagine it being that big. As to your question, people in California usually get either pizza sauce, or the garlic, and sometimes ranch. Yesterday, when I was at Subway with my boyfriend having lunch until his next class started, I saw a girl (about your age?) having a side of ranch dipping sauce. I really don’t think that the Flatizza’s need dipping sauce as they put plenty of the sauce on there. I love Subway’s Flatizza’s. You can put any vegetables on it and it’s still great. I wish I can come visit you and get a slice of that big pizza!
RE: I never really got a chance to have piano lessons. I’ve always done it by ear (I guess, and from what others told me). I wouldn’t mind taking piano lessons sometime, but I have no idea how I’m supposed to figure that into my busy schedule next semester. This semester is almost a joke – Sociology, Theater, Music Appreciation, and Guidance. Speaking of Guidance, I just finished and with an A to boot! The Guidance class was only 8 weeks long as it is a hybrid class.
Oh my god, you’re right. The pizza slices are HUGE. I’ve never seen one that big! Granted there are not many pizza outlets over here (we’ve always stick to Dominos) but man I think a slice of that would be enough for me! I could even share it with someone. I’ve never heard of dipping pizza into honey and I don’t know what it would taste like. I don’t think I’m gonna try it any time soon because I don’t like honey, haha!
Now I’m really craving for pizza
Oh my, that is something. Now, I am craving pizza. Hahaha, but yeah, I’ve never heard of honey as a dipping sauce, as I’ve seen ranch dressing as the main choice. Still, it’s nice to have a change, but I bet pizza tastes fantastic with honey. I may have to try it. Those slices are huge, indeed.
Yum, I love pizza, and those slices look tasty! Sausage is my favorite topping There’s a couple places here that offer large slices too. I feel like they’re the size of two slices off of a normal large pizza.
I’ve never seen a place offer honey with the pizza crust! It’s pretty common here to offer marinara or ranch for the crust, but not honey. That makes me want to try it now, haha.
I love that they converted an old gas station into the pizzeria! I love pizza, looking at the first image it does not look that big but seeing it in relation to your friend is amazing! It’s huge! There are quite a few pizza places here, pretty much every corner. We even have a corner in downtown Halifax called “Pizza Corner” as there is 4 corners and 4 pizza places lol.
I’ve never heard of honey on pizza but it actually sounds kind of nice! Those slices look like they’re the size of a whole normal pizza! (I wonder how the full pizza looks when they cook it!)
That pizza slice is HUGE. I love cute little hole in the wall places which have amazing food and you never expect it for some reason. There was a hole in the wall cafe place I used to visit at an old bus station, and it’s drinks were so nice. ^_^
